Welcome To Plymouth Argaum RFC

dhsob120909_1.jpgWe are a friendly, family-based club located at  Bickleigh Down, Roborough just north of Plymouth. We currently run a 1st XV and occasionally 2nd XV senior mens teams whilst we also have a junior section which has been running since 2003. We are probably the oldest club in Plymouth having being originally formed in 1887. In May 2008 the running of the clubhouse was taken over by Plymouth Argaum Sports & Social Club , it was completely refurbished and is now open every day of the week. This website is regularly updated with match reports and other club news, if you have any feedback or would like to contribute then please email the webmaster or use the forum. If you would like to get in touch with us to join the club as playing or social member, arrange or confirm a fixture or find out some other information then see the contacts page.

Other selected site highlights include the origins of the club and its unusual name , the Centenary History  and the Argaum Archive containing content from the previous incarnations of this site.

Argaum Colts 2009-10
Argaum produced a fine second half fightback in this passionate and at times bruising local derby. Argaum were caught defending too narrow on a number of occasions in the first half which allowed the experienced home side to run in 4 tries one of which was converted. In reply Argaum made inroads into the opposition half but only had 2 Jake Turfrey penalties to show for their efforts. The second half was a much different affair as the visitors took the game to Oaks and caused problems for their defence. It was no more than they deserved when Jake Turfrey went over from a tap penalty to claim the touchdown. Plymstock were limited to a single second half penalty. Argaum will rue their lethargic start to the game otherwise the result of this competitive encounter would have been very much in the balance.

spectators on a bitterly cold but sunny morning at Bickleigh Down. The home side, with some confidence after winning their last outing at Lankelly-Fowey started brightly up the hill and opened the scoring when prop Liam Quick powered his way over from a tap penalty. Saltash played with a lot of width in their game and used their speedy backs to great effect to allow Doug Shirley to go over for the equalising try. Argaum's defence held up firm to further Saltash attacks and on the stroke of half time captain Carl Turner put his side back in the lead after good forward continuity and Alex Coutts converted to make the interval score 12-5 to the hosts.

Guys...  for the sake of the memories that Argaum have provided you and in the hope for many more, please, come out of the woodwork and give it another go...  The show MUST go on!

Lankelly-Fowey U15s 22 Plymouth Argaum 24
Written by Jason Chinn

A glorious day in Cornwall saw 2 determined sides battling each other for territory in a very well contested game. Plymouth Argaum started off the scoring with some determined running by the captain Carl Turner through the middle of the pitch and were rewarded a try converted by Alex Coutts. Unfortunately Turner was then forced to go off due to illness.
This situation found Plymouth struggling to dominate and giving up territory far too easy, although on the break they were again able to score a try from winger Ben Jones, Coutts again converting.  Argaum then switched off and allowed the home team the advantage of running into the corner to secure a good try. Argaum then kicked to Lankelly who immediately counter-attacked with fantastic continuity to again score a try in the corner leaving the score 10 - 14 to Argaum at the break.
