North Tawton, fighting for the second promotion spot, brought the physical game that Argaum expected at Taw Meadows.
In what was an even game, Tawts insisted on keeping the ball tight And despite Argaum trying to spread the ball wide in the first 20 minutes, the game evolved into a war of attrition.
Argaum scored the only try in the first half when a quick backs move saw Paul Ansell offload to Jake Turfrey to go over. Ansell missed the conversion.
Soon after, another quick break saw Kevin Sidebottom break through on the wing, only for a top recovering tackle by the home side's fullback to put him in touch.
Dan Smith was replaced with Adam Fitzpatrick following a hamstring injury which was the first of a number of significant injuries.
Tawton slotted a penalty to keep the score tight, but Ansell restored the five point gap shortly before the break.
No points were scored in the second half but not for the want of trying. Both teams had chances, the best being when the Chiefs were camped in North Tawton's 22, coming closest with Aaron Anderson-smith just short of the line and subsequent wide ball saw Tawts defend heroically.
Another 4 points despite an unusually poor performance. But credit to the home team who were strong and aggressive in contact and forced the game.
Injuries to Smith, Mason Edwards, Luke Kenny and Sidebottom and to the growing list and next weeks game against Torrington will test the depth of the Argaum squad.
