Torrington grab promotion as Chiefs stutter

Contributed By Clair Turfrey

Following a hard match last week with injuries mounting up and preparing for next weeks cup final, Sansom had some difficulties with availability this week. Counting at least 7 first team players out, in came Owen Belli, Dave Rawles, Steve Reeves, Luke Warrington, Mike Wood, and Toby Liberson.

Argaum and Torrington seemed evenly matched for the first 15 min with the ball in equal possession but that was short lived. Argaum seemed to be missing their normal fluid movement it getting the ball to the backs and letting them run. 15 mins in saw torries make a concerted effort and push over the try line for their first try which was not converted. Torries were picking up injuries with a player off to a & e with a broken finger, but this didn't seem to take their mind off the game. 5 mins later another try from a break 20 yards out saw another try run in, again unconverted.

Argaum seemed to have picked up the pace when 30 min in we were in the opposition half when an attempted drop kick by tom underwood saw play brought to a halt following the cross bar coming off. Mutual efforts of both teams and repairs saw the game resume.

A good run that could have been Argaum's first point by James Riley was stopped dead by a torries player. Still Argaum seemed to be struggling with the new line up as the ball was slow moving and torries took advantage of this again with another try which was converted this time just before half time. Followed very shortly by a penalty to add even more points to take us into the break

Words I'm sure were exchanged in the huddle about argaums efforts and the second half seemed more determined from the off. But this didn't stop another penalty at the 45 min mark putting torries 23 points ahead.

Finally Argaum saw some ball and good efforts by all saw a close call which was knocked on over the line by Owen Belli missing out on Argaum's first points of the day.

Ten minutes later saw torries take advantage of Argaum's fail to spread the line and find space to run through another try which was converted. Followed 5 mins later with another try (unconverted).

In the dying minutes of the game Kevin Anderson used his brutal weight to force a try through to give Argaum the score they were looking for which was converted by the boot of Tom Richards.
