Chiefs go 11 points clear after impressive performance against city rivals.

A perfect day for open rugby at Bickleigh Down welcomed an Old Techs side that had won 5 of their last 6 games. The Chiefs however had experienced a slump in momentum after losing out to Devon Two pace setters North Tawton last week.

Dispite missing a number of influential players, Aaron Anderson-Smith (family commitments), Dave Shepherd (injury), James Riley (injury), coach Dave Sansom was happy with his squad as he welcomed in Kal Bloomfield, Will Cox and Courtney Richards.

A good intensive week of training looked to have paid off as Argaum started well and played the first twenty minutes in the Old Techs' half. The Old Boys defended well though and it wasn't untill the twenty second minute that Argaum Full-Back Jake Turfrey completed a slick backs move, breaking through the middle and bursting over the line. Paul Ansell added the extras.

With continued pressure, it took just five more minutes until Argaum scored again. The ball popped up to Jamie Burton on the blind side of a ruck just inside the Techs' half. Burton's blistering pace and power to compliment, saw him brush away the opposition. Supportive running from Dave Hall on the wing created the space for Burton to exploit. Ansell stepped up to make it 14-0.

The only fracas of a hotly contested game saw Lock, Paul Walters get binned, but despite this, the Chiefs continued their positive approach. Persistent pressure forced Techs to fumble about at a scrum on their line. Ever alert Ellery Jones pounced to keep his impressive scoring record up. Ansell surprisingly missed an easy conversion.

The periods either side of the break were perhaps Techs' best. Argaum getting drawn into a battle in the forewards. Cool heads on the pitch managed to direct the focus back to an open game and with a full compliment again, Argaum started to dominate again.

Surprisingly, captain Tom Richards instructed Ansell to pot a penalty when the Chiefs were pressing for the bonus point, but that came soon after when flanker Burton popped up on the end of a good piece of back play to crash over in the corner.

The Weston Mill side spent the last fifteen minutes defending bravely. The pride in their shirt was obvious and despite Argaum's dominance, the Chiefs couldn't break through again. The final play appeared to see Paul Walters make amends for his yellow earlier, only to be judged to have been held up.

The 'Jingle Jumper' Social after proved a great success and i'm sure there are a few sore heads this morning.

Next Saturday, Argaum take THREE sides to Plymstock Albion Oaks. The Chiefs' game being a top of the table clash.
