This much hyped league game saw Argaum welcome an in-form St Columba to Bickleigh Down.
Argaum welcomed new recruits Tom Holliday and Tom Worboys into the match day squad, whilst Billy Evans was selected for the Wanderers.
The first half had Argaum playing uphill and often against a much changing wind. Good recycling and offloading took the game to Saints. At times you could argue that Argaum tried to force the game too much.
A tight period saw the Chiefs go into the break 12-0 up, with tries from Richard Hewitt and Tom Richards. Captain Richards playing in his last game before moving to Australia hit a good line after some hard running from the Argaum forwards. Ellery Jones started to dictate the game from the breakdown.
Hewitt pushed a penalty over early in the 2nd half after hitting the post with a previous effort. St Columba looked dangerous on the break with their fullback making some great runs, proving very difficult to tackle.
Old Warhorse Damien Chambers made tackle upon tackle for the Cornish outfit, along with his tight pack. Torpoint dominated the scrum for most of the game. Match Day Management team Nick Hancock and Wayne Liddle made some changes and Adam Fitzpatrick and Paul Walters came on to sure things up.
Debutant Holliday was awarded a pushover try by the ref after a fantastic scrum against the head. Unfortunately, everyone quickly realised that the line was Actually the 5 meter line and play was restarted with a Torpoint scrum.
The pressure seemed to tell in the end. Dan James made a strong run from outside centre, unselfishly setting up Aaron Anderson-Smith, who plodded over the line. More hard running from James earn him his own try and the side the bonus point.
At the death, Mike Hunt sliced a kick meant to end the game. The terrible attempt fell into the hands of Hewitt, who caught the Cornish napping and broke through to set up Dave Hall. Hall finished well and Hunt took the plaudits. Hunt Converted.
Worboys and Holliday settled in well in their first competitive game and much can be taken from the result and the clean sheet. Areas still to work on.
Man of the match: Goodman ;-)
