Defibrillation within 3-5 minutes can improve survival rates by as much as 70%
- Resus Council (2015)

We have just taken receipt of and installed a defibrillator in the clubhouse.

As part of the ongoing drive to improve the service we provide to our membership, we have worked with HeartSWell SW and have bought the 'LifePak CR2', This is an AED (Automatic External Defibrillator) which can be used by anyone in the event of someone collapsing in cardiac arrest. This particular machine can be used for both for adults and children.

HeartSWell's Operations Manager, Liz Hutchins (pictured presenting the machine to Stuart Quarterman) said "we help provide defibrillators to organisations accross Devon & Cornwall and the charity contribute significantly to the cost of all of the equipment. There is an on-line form that anyone interested could fill in and the charity will pick it up from there."

The machine will be kept in the clubhouse, but taken up to the pitches during games so (in the event of it ever being needed) the shortest delay in defibrilation is achieved. Defibrillation within 3-5 minutes of collapse can improve survival rates of as high as 50-70%. Each minute of delay reduces the probability of survival by 10%

HeartSWell also offer counselling & support to individuals and their families who are suffering from heart disease. They also provide accomodation for families of those in hospital suffering with heart issues (The Lodge).
