In the last week of September this was the latest competitive start to a league season that one can remember but it was worth the wait. New Head Coach Martyn Hendy, taking over from Dean Avery, has seen best-laid pre-season plans hugely disrupted due to the hard grounds and the delayed start to the season. Last week's 3-way runout with Tavistock and Devonport Services was all that could be managed but despite that The Chiefs were in control of this league fixture against a Salcombe team that are always competitive.
A minutes silence was held before the match in memory of Ian Hatch, a stalwart of Salcombe RFC, who passed away recently. With a number of new faces including ex-Oaks number 8 Ryan Mckibbin, Argaum dotted down for 6 tries to their opponents 3, with Mckibbin, Adam McCrohan and Dan Smith amongst the try scorers. A positive start and Argaum look forward to hosting Paignton II at Bickleigh Down next Saturday.
