End of season review

Well, what a weekend! This Saturday, we hosted two touring sides in St Bernadette's Old Boys and Pontllanfraith. When we agreed, little did we know that they would be bringing over 100 tourists between them (114 I think).

The teamwork that went in to ensuring we looked after so many was a fine example of how far we have come over the last 18 months. Following a planning meeting, a group of members all went away with their jobs and areas of responsibility. The right people, with the right skills, doing the right things... Massive thanks to all involved on the day!

I was once reminded by one of our more outspoken players to never forget the rugby... at the time, this wasn't a massive thing, but it has always stuck with me (thankyou Mason). The entire fabric of this club has to be based around rugby and the players... To do that though, we need a quality product and that comes with hard work both on and off the pitch.

The volunteers we have had this year have worked immensely hard to help make this club the best it can be. We have a wonderful clubhouse, which for all of its positives and the identity and HQ that it affords us, creates many day-to-day headaches and conundrums.

We have been incredibly lucky that we have had Amy Browning 'mopping up' a lot of these issues for us this year (ably assisted by JP and Kat). I'm very sad to hear that both Amy and Kat are stepping down from their positions. The list of works that they have completed is as long as my arm. I know that the 'lads' are massively appreciative, but that appreciation is mirrored by the Junior Section and I for one, am extremely grateful for all they have both done for the club and wish them well and hope they enjoy just being at the club. :-)

Thanks also to Ceirion Humphries who has done a stirling job managing our kitchen this year. Due to work commitments, 'Taff' is also stepping down from his role. Thankyou Taff!

Our committee has grown in stature and individuals have taken on more responsibility this year. I hope we continue to develop at the rate we are and we all (myself included) learn from our experiences to push forward. We will indeed be looking to appoint three new managers (Kitchen, Bar and Buildings) for the new season, so get your thinking caps on.

Notably, William Lloyd as the best Social Secretary ever (great tour to Bournemouth) and Karl Sullivan and Nathan, developing our Junior section, which now has 7 age groups.

There are so many people to thank that I won't list here, but I promise you, I see what you are doing and appreciate it massively.

Now, at the beginning, I mentioned that I should never forget the rugby... well, how could I? What a season we have had on the field! Dean Avery and Jack Hiscock came in last summer and have been awesome! Building on the foundations laid by Brett Stroud, they were lucky enough to have 'The Nucleus'... A driven and committed bunch of lads, leading the way for others to follow.

The ingredients already in the pantry, with a sprinkling of fresh produce and the skill and knowhow that Dean and Jack had to cook it all up together, became the perfect recipe. Winning the league was one thing, but in the style the team did it was what made it special! And of course, this all supported by the culture that is being created. Thankyou both, from the bottom of my heart!

Thankyou to all of our sponsors! Aquamare Marine, Stormforce Roofing, Fay Pedler Physio, Dextra Group and Plymouth Property Maintenance. Also to those who sponsor the players and the junior sides. Without your generosity, we wouldn't be able to survive.

Only two more significant dates to come, the Dinner Dance (17th June) and the AGM (24th June). Then before we know it, preseason will be upon us.

Please contact 'Jabba' regarding tickets to the Dinner Dance (deadline is 29th May).

We hope to be able to discuss the future of the club in more depth at the AGM, where there will be updates on the internal structure of the club and the PL44 development.

Thankyou for reading and here's to a bit of down time and let's hit the ground running after the summer.

Chairman, Plymouth Argaum RFC
