Argaum storm to 36 point lead at the break.

Bickleigh Down's reputation for poor weather has been ruined this season so far as the sun shone yet again in the north of Plymouth. Buckfastleigh brought with them a healthy following and their organised warm-up and pre kick-off drill suggested that they were ready to take a scalp after their last outing saw them go close against league leaders Old Techs.

That organised aggressive start never materialised as the game started with mediocre rugby. Saying that, the first try, scored by Ieuan Evans will go down as one of his best. Evans, broke on the wing to brush off 3 tackles and sprint the remaining 40 yards to score after 9 minutes. Adding to an increasingly impressive collection. Argaum started to dominate at the break down and the scrum and it was after another 9 minutes that some persistent forward pressure saw Karl Sullivan dance over the line for the second. Tom Richards added a penalty to the two conversions to put more pressure on the scoreboard. Constistant strong scrummaging was winning Argaum good ball to attack with, but by the half hour, Bucks had had 2 front row players leave the field with injury, one later going to the Emergency Department after not recovering from a head injury. This meant that the game was to continue with uncontested scrums. Perhaps one of Argaum's strengths had been neutralised, but for the remainder of the half, with the chiefs in the ascendancy, Dan James, Jared Williams and Ieuan Evans all went over in the closing stages, securing a bonus point for the the team and giving Richards the opportunity to slot his 100th point for the first XV.

Buckfastleigh came out fighting after the break and immediately put pressure on the Argaum line. The Chiefs had regular breaks into the visitors half and indeed Richards converted another penalty to take the score to 39-0. Little did Argaum know that that was to be the last score as The Ramblers continued to gain momentum and for 20 minutes were camped in the Argaum 22. There was an new aggression In all that the men in black and gold did and they did manage to convince the referee that they had scored just past the hour mark. The game never really recovered and indeed Argaum, although started to increase their tempo, never quite managed to regain the upper hand. Substitute Stuart Quarterman was binned with 10 minutes to go after only being on for six minutes. Numerous reasons were given for this decision, but baffled many. With the temperament of both sides starting to frey, no stoppage time was played.

Argaum will be happy with another bonus point win, and I should imagine that Buckfastleigh will be encouraged by their second half performance.
