Argaum run in six to brush past Tamar Saracens

You could understand Tamar Saracen's reluctance to play this fixture as they appeared to be under-strength for this re-arranged game, but their waterlogged pitch was not enough to get out of it as the Bickleigh Down field was as good as ever. It came as a surprise mind when the call came this morning that the game was off and that was that. After many phone calls, the game was back on, at Roborough in accordance with the league regulations. It seemed unusual that the Ernesettle team's admin team had overlooked this as they historically have been quite savvy to such things. Rugby proving to be the winner.

Despite the odd thunderous looking cloud, the weather was fair and their was an air of confidence about from both sides. Argaum fielded two changes from last week, with Kevin Anderson coming in for Kevin Sidebottom in the pack and Ieuan Evans returning on the Left wing. Sarries started brightly and set out their stall immediately with kicks into the corners from the half-backs. A play that was to remain throughout the game. Unfortunately for the team in black, Argaum enjoy the counter and a high ball was collected by Tom Richards. The slick inter-passing throughout the backline saw Richards collect again on the 22 and run diagonally to the corner. Ten minutes later, the debonair Evans crossed for his first as the Saracens wings lacked that bit of pace. Argaum, strong at the set pieces, provided a great platform for the backs to perform and looked dangerous with every foray forward. Ciaran Bennett breaking tackles with each play and swift support and recycling from all around. This was creating space and just before the half-hour, Jake Turfrey scored the pick of the tries as he broke through the line with pace and power and surged toward the line with only his hapless opposing fullback to beat. Moments later, a defence splitting diagonal kick from Richards saw Evans and Dan Smith fighting to ground over the line, a race that Evans inevitably won.

The turnaround saw nothing change as Argaum continued to win the majority of Saracen's set pieces and Saracens continued to pump the ball back down field for Argaum to run again. After soaking up some hefty pressure toward the end of the first half, the Chiefs looked to settle the game and take control again. When Dan Smith was binned, the pack went down to seven. The attitude from the forwards though was to dig in and the Saracen's scrum continued to go back. Continued disciplined pressure saw hooker Karl Sullivan go over midway through the half. For such a quiet character, he's finding it hard to keep out of the headlines. Perhaps more points should've been scored but it was the quality of rugby that was being enjoyed by the supporters. Bennett and Dan James were as aggressive as ever in the midfield and if the ball was on the deck, it was Bennett's. The Prop referred to as 'Spud' got a consolation in the corner for Saracens after some good play gaining ground in their forwards, but it was the collussus they call Aaron Anderson-Smith who got the final say ten minutes from time with a customary powerful run ending over the chalk. Another game without incident was officiated in good spirits and the losing team were magnanimous in defeat. Next up, Buckfastleigh!
