Plymouth Argaum finally got the league win they were looking for in emphatic style with a 7 try win at home to Salcombe. The Crabs have been a bogey side throughout the club's history and, although the clubs haven't met competitively for a decade, this was remarkably the first league win for Argaum over them since the 1996-97 season. To make matters more pleasing there was a large contingent of junior section players to watch on what was #ArgaumCubsDay. After being coached by senior players at lunch time, it was the Cubs turn to cheer on the Chiefs in the afternoon, forming a tunnel both before and after the match, it was a great sight.
Despite having to make (the now customary) late changes to their line up, Argaum put in a decent all round performance which reflected well on the training sessions run by assistant coach Duncan Campbell this week. Persistent rain throughout the match dictated that it would be a battle up front but the pitch was firm enough that when the opportunity arose, backs could make the most of spaces created. The visitor's ill-discipline meant that they received a number of yellow cards and the Chiefs made the most of that with tries from Gideon Berends, Kallan Malone and a brace from Mitch Coles. Karl Sullivan was the star of the show with a hat-trick from the back row, whilst Cheyenne Edwards slotted two conversions. The Chiefs know that this is only the start in what is a very competitive Devon 1 League but at least they now have something to build on.
